Abstract
The second South Sudan Household Health Survey (SHHS 2) was conducted in 2010 by the Ministry of Health (MoH) and the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). The main objective of the survey was to provide up-to-date information about key health indicators, demographic and socio-economic characteristics for the development of planning and improvement of monitoring systems in South Sudan. These include: education, water, sanitation, environment, child protection, survival, maternal health and HIV/AIDS. The survey was carried out specifically:1. To provide the necessary data for planning and policy making.
2. To measure the trend towards achievement of the internationally agreed upon indicators based on the SHHS1 results.
3. To furnish data needed for monitoring progress towards the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), the goals of a World Fit For Children (WFFC) and the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) Program of action.
4. To contribute to the improvement of data collection and monitoring systems.
5. To provide up-to-date information for assessing the situation of children and woman in particular.
6. To measure the prevalence of HIV infection among general population ages 15-49 years.
